According to preliminary data from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), there were 3,886 housing starts in Québec centres with 10,000 or more inhabitants in March 2019. This represents a 37 per cent increase compared to March of last year. The Gatineau (+705 per cent), Sherbrooke (+122 per cent) and Montréal (+58 per cent) Census Metropolitan Areas (CMAs) registered the largest increases while the Saguenay (-73 per cent) and Québec (-59 per cent) CMAs registered large declines.
