Legal Issues

The QFREB defends with vigilance and firmness the interests of the Québec brokerage industry, the integrity of the profession of real estate broker and the privileges enjoyed by brokers who are members of a real estate board.

Accordingly, the QFREB is involved in legal cases for the purpose of:

Ending false, misleading and disparaging advertisements

We have filed a class action against DuProprio, a company that offers real estate consulting services, in which we represent Québec real estate brokers who work in the residential sector. In particular, we are requesting that the Superior Court issue an interlocutory and permanent injunction against DuProprio so that it would put an end to its false, misleading and disparaging advertising in regard to real estate brokers.

Subject all real estate consulting and coaching companies to the Real Estate Brokerage Act.

The QFREB defends the interests of the Québec brokerage industry in the issue of the application for declaratory judgment by the Organisme d’autoréglementation du courtage immobilier du Québec (OACIQ) to have DuProprio brought within the scope of the Real Estate Brokerage Act. OACIQ launched a legal action against DuProprio in 2013 for the reason that it acted in a manner that implied that it was authorized to practise the activity of real estate broker whereas it did not hold any licence to this effect.
